Occupational health and safety in manufacturing is increasingly concerning for employers and industry leaders. Employers must provide a range of occupational health services for their employees, including injury care, claims management, medical surveillance compliance and health initiatives. However, many service providers take a one-size-fits-all approach, which doesn’t suit every workplace’s distinct needs.

The solution is to partner with an experienced occupational health and safety service provider that can deliver tailored services to meet injury and medical compliance goals.

Work-Comp Management Services (WCMS) is a certified woman-owned business enterprise (WBENC) specializing in occupational health and drug screening services. It has a proven history of successfully delivering occupational medical services to companies of diverse sizes and types. Its smaller scale enables it to circumvent layers of bureaucracy and ensure swift response times, effectively aligning with Clients’ objectives, no matter the size of the Client. WCMS has developed a comprehensive injury management system called Compnurse. Compnurse has a medical provider to take calls and manage injuries after hours, weekends and 24/7 if desired. Compnurse reduces the need for ER or Urgent Care visits after hours for non-emergent injuries, reducing employer costs while giving immediate care and attention to injured workers.

“We are a one-stop shop providing customized on-site occupational health services and staffing for manufacturing-based clients. We work in multiple states, offering on-site and Telemed services to locally and remotely integrate ourselves into their facilities,” says Matthew Veve, regional manager at WCMS.

The company specializes in setting up on-site occupational health clinics in manufacturing and business settings, offering complete on-site programs that are cost effective and don’t nickle and dime Clients. WCMS utilizes vendors for medical supplies, drug screening kits and other necessary clinic items where discounts are negotiated by WCMS with the vendors, and those items are provided to the Client at a passthrough cost. WCMS drug screening typically saves the Client over 50 percent per screen, including confirmation of positives and MRO services.

WCMS provides on-site medical professionals like doctors, nurse practitioners, occupational health RNs and physician assistants or remote/virtual visits for immediate care. It establishes real-time care plans and reduces lost days of work for injured workers, addressing the financial impact on companies and the personal well-being of individuals. The company minimizes downtime and provides swift, effective care for workplace injuries.

“We aim to support the well-being of employees and prioritize a safe and healthy work environment in collaboration with environmental health and safety teams within manufacturing facilities,” says Lisa Boone, operations manager at WCMS.

WCMS offers a full range of on-site occupational health services, including drug screening. It works with labs, a certified MRO group, and can develop any screening panel to meet Client needs.

WCMS can bring on-site portable X-rays for medical surveillance and injury care, and work with your chosen local off site providers establishing networks with companies for seamless collaboration. WCMS staff receive CAOHC and NIOSH certifications, conduct audiometric hearing tests and provide pulmonary function testing. WCMS can bring lab services on-site for lead level and other compliance testing with 24 hour turn around.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, WCMS responded to Client needs for employee testing when entering the building each shift, establishing test sites for each shift, every work day, testing hundreds of employees quickly and efficiently enabling regular start times. Any Covid positive individuals were given instructions as to how to follow up with the Client for return to work as soon as being cleared within established guidelines. It partnered with the local Department of Health and secured free masks, gloves, gowns, and testing materials that resulted in significant cost savings for the client.

This initiative led to a 40 percent reduction in call-offs, unnecessary sick leaves, and boosted employee morale, showing the company’s commitment to their well-being.

WCMS also implemented a comp nurse program for clients during COVID-19 when walk-in clinics were unavailable. This allows clients to call a dedicated line for basic triage via video tele-med and receive initial first aid suggestions, followed by next-day on-site medical staff visits or ER referrals if necessary. This ensures immediate injury management without off-site referral delays.

WCMS works with Clients ranging in size from 200 employees to over 25,000. WCMS customizes on-site programs to meet each individual Client’s needs. WCMS is expanding with current Clients based on success of existing clinic services, and growing with new Clients. WCMS management pride themselves on rarely losing a Client; their goal is to partner with their Clients for as long as medical services are needed. WCMS has been with several of their Clients for over 10 years.

WCMS strives to keep individuals working in safe environments. Its commitment to customized and efficient occupational health solutions positions it as a valuable partner in promoting workplace health, safety, well-being and productivity.
