“Business will not flourish unless people and the planet are flourishing.”

This particular quote from the CEO of Triple Value Leadership, Sander G. Tideman’s introductory chapter of his book, ‘Triple Value Leadership’ epitomizes an all-pervasive paradigm shift in the role of business in today’s society. Tideman asserts that with the growing planetary crisis, attacks on democracy, and ongoing health challenges, a company can no longer prioritize commercial interests and financial gains at the expense of societal and environmental interests.

Against this backdrop, Triple Value Leadership allows business leaders to positively contribute to society by recognizing that business is a part of society. Triple Value Leadership is based on time-tested leadership traditions and the latest insights from neuroscience, psychology, biology, and human performance. The company’s unique approach to leadership is derived from a decade of research with leading organizations and institutions.

Triple Value Leadership puts forth a practical framework for CEOs and business leaders called the Triple Value mindset model with six leadership attributes that help business leaders guide their organization through a sustainable transition.

Furthermore, the Triple Value Creation (TVC) systems mindset, framed in leadership archetypes, is revealed in Chapter 8 of the book. The author argues that the TVC leadership mindset consists of six essential qualities, which are dynamically related, including the wise, the learner, the grounder, the connector, the warrior, and the visionary. The key highlight is that leaders who emphasize one quality risk overlooking other key competencies and losing balance. The leader may have the best intentions, but if the distinct qualities are not balanced, it might render leadership ineffective, resulting in performance gaps and causing leaders to underperform or even fail in crucial competency areas.

The first archetype, the wise, defines the category of leaders who are aware of and adaptive to the changing dynamics of the environment. This leadership approach is based on the psychological perspective of context awareness, a critical function of all living systems. The learner approach is the ability to observe and know oneself, encouraging cognitive and experiential knowledge. The learner approach supports a growth mindset driven by the ability to learn at any point in life. The wise and the learner archetypes are new additions to the Triple Value leadership model.

The other form of mindset is standardized in many leadership development practices today. The connector model defines emotional intelligence- as the ability to bond, empathize, and show compassion. On the other hand, the grounder is the ability to plan and consider past commitments and structures. The visionary is a wellknown leadership quality depicted by great leaders like Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi. A visionary should be able to regenerate the ideas and inspiration necessary to create a better future.

Lastly, the warrior embodies the ability to drive change and bring results in a complex situation over extended periods. If the warrior is informed by the sustainable direction provided by the wise and the visionary, the warrior becomes a “sustainability warrior” who is not driven at the expense of other qualities.

“We help leaders to access other faculties than just a cognitive brain and bring all six leadership faculties together to provide leaders with a renewed purpose,” says Tideman.

Individuals need to align their purpose with society and their organization’s mission. Given that the sense of purpose is linked to society, Triple Value Leadership uses its model, Self/Organization/System (SOS), to enable individuals to realize the shared purpose of doing something for society and the planet. The company helps people conceive and articulate this shared purpose through leadership coaching and development. These leadership faculties enable organizations to retain sustainable high performance, ushering in purpose-based leadership.

Shared purpose-based leadership facilitates businesses to attract and retain talents and build high-performance teams The Triple Value Leadership approach also positively impacts the investment domain for clients leading to holistic and sustainable growth in the future.

In one such instance, Triple Value Leadership helped one of its clients to resolve his inner conflict between performance and purpose. When given the proposal to become the CEO of his organization, the individual faced a dilemma with stepping up. Even though he was second in command in his organization, he felt that the role of a CEO in the company would disrupt his worklife balance. He believed that as a CEO, he would be occupied with fulfilling the relentless demands of stakeholders, compromising his present life.

We help leaders to access other faculties than just a cognitive brain and bring all six leadership faculties together to provide leaders with a renewed purpose

At this juncture, Triple Value Leadership’s coaching methodology made him realize that having a shared purpose for the world will drive his performance. He understood that he could build the organization around his strengths and needs without being exhausted. This enabled him to become a role model for building a sustainable high-performance culture while serving the shareholders. Triple Value Leadership designed an immersive program for the client through walks and meditation amidst nature, awakening the client’s natural gifts and abilities.

At present, the Triple Value Leadership approach is driving the work of the Compassionate Leadership in Finance academy in association with the Garrison Institute (https://www.garrisoninstitute.org/ initiatives/programs/compassionate- leadership-in-finance-clif-program/). The program helps senior leaders in the financial sector to access and cultivate compassion at the level of self, organization and system. This type of compassion, which empowers the leader’s shared purpose with society, is a key ingredient for the leadership necessary in the face of the challenges today.

Without an iota of doubt, Triple Value Leadership’s groundbreaking coaching methodology has helped many clients like Unilever, UNICEF, and Reuters.
