A book becomes interesting when it captures an idea its author has spent years testing. For Brian D. Ruffner, that idea is performance: why some people and teams consistently find another level while others settle into doing only what their roles require.

Ruffner has spent more than 35 years building teams, working with individuals, and applying performance psychology to business. Those experiences have now come together in “Live Unstoppable: The Proven System to Unleash Your Superpower in Business and Life,” his newly released book and the clearest expression of NoLimit Performance , LLC
.

Released on Amazon, Live Unstoppable examines change on two connected levels. Organizations need to change, but so do the people responsible for leading them. Ruffner’s framework brings those sides together through the Live Unstoppable Success System and Live Unstoppable Coaching, concepts that also shape his work with executives, teams, and organizations. An Audible edition is expected in the coming weeks.

For Ruffner, “unstoppable” is not a motivational word. It describes a way of approaching performance. People have strengths they may not recognize and habits that can limit them. His work is built around identifying those gaps and helping people close them.

That thinking gives NoLimit Performance its starting point. The firm does not treat executive coaching as a conversation separate from the organization. Its work connects the executive with the team, the culture, and the systems that either help or hinder performance.

Seeing the Leader First

The step is self-awareness. NoLimit Performance uses assessments to help leaders understand strengths, blind spots, behavioral tendencies, and thinking styles. Ruffner places particular emphasis on emotional intelligence, which he sees as essential for what he calls the 21st-century leader.

Today’s workforce brings multiple generations, expectations, and motivations into the same organization. Ruffner’s coaching asks leaders to become more flexible. They need to recognize their own emotional state, read the people around them, and adjust their approach according to the person and situation.

“Leaders have to realize they are going to have to grow, so they have to understand where they’re at, where their strengths are, where they’ve got blind spots,” Ruffner says.

That changes the role of coaching. The objective is to help executives develop the judgment needed to get the best from different people.

The 25/75 Problem

Ruffner has a name for another issue he sees across organizations: the 25/75 rule. In his view, some employees do enough to meet the baseline requirements of their jobs, but that may represent only a fraction of what they could contribute.

The challenge is finding that remaining potential without automatically adding more people. NoLimit Performance works with leaders on hiring, assessment, development, coaching, and culture so organizations can make better use of the teams they already have.

One example came from a Fortune 500 company with a serious first-year sales turnover problem. More than 80 percent of its new sales representatives were leaving during their first year. NoLimit Performance helped develop performance models for key positions, defining what a top performer looked like through behavioral characteristics, thinking styles, and emotional intelligence. The work extended into hiring, onboarding, and development.

The reported outcome was 20x top-line growth, more than double the profitability percentage, and first-year sales turnover reduced to below five percent.

Scaling Without Creating Bottlenecks

Growth can create another problem. A leadership structure that works for a smaller organization can become an obstacle when the business expands.

Ruffner points to organizations where decisions become concentrated among a few senior leaders. Even relatively small decisions may require executive approval. Leaders become bottlenecks, employees wait, and execution slows.

  • Leaders have to realize they are going to have to grow, so they have to understand where they’re at, where their strengths are, where they’ve got blind spots.

NoLimit Performance helps organizations examine those choke points and determine which decisions can move closer to the people doing the work. In one example, a company began setting thresholds that allowed employees to make certain financial decisions without sending everything up the chain.

Growth requires more than increased sales. Organizations need structures that can absorb additional demand.

From Sports Psychology to Business

Part of NoLimit Performance’s distinction comes from Ruffner’s connection to performance psychology. The discipline grew from sports psychology, applying principles that helped athletes prepare and perform to the business environment.

Ruffner’s original mentor was Dr. James Loehr, whom he describes as the grandfather of the performance psychology movement. That influence remains visible in the company’s work with sports figures and business leaders.

Ruffner holds professional coaching certification with the International Coaching Federation, Advanced Certified Team Coaching certification, and board certification as an executive and leadership coach. He is also a master trainer in DISC and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and holds Maxwell Leadership certification.

Coaching With an Organizational View

An executive can improve personally while the organization around that person remains unchanged. NoLimit Performance looks at both sides of that equation.

The firm works with leaders on individual development while helping them build teams, establish growth cultures, distribute decision-making, and create accountability that does not depend entirely on the person at the top. Ruffner describes the desired culture as one in which people hold one another accountable rather than waiting for a leader to enforce every standard.

“It’s really evolved around providing the results, the outcomes that people are looking for, that they couldn’t get on their own, and that’s why they come to us,” Ruffner says.

Looking Ahead

The next phase for NoLimit Performance reflects that ambition. Ruffner currently works with three other executive coaches and plans to add two more by the beginning of 2027. The company intends to continue expanding its individual and team coaching work while staying focused on measurable outcomes.

NoLimit Performance has been named as Top Executive Coaching Firm for 2026, adding another milestone as Ruffner brings the Live Unstoppable philosophy to a wider audience.

Live Unstoppable is no longer simply an idea being developed behind the scenes. It is now a published book, a coaching framework, and a public statement of how Ruffner views performance.

At its heart is a question that applies well beyond the executive suite: what could people accomplish if they stopped treating their current level of performance as their limit? NoLimit Performance has built its work around helping leaders ask that question honestly—and then giving them a practical path toward the answer.
