SABIC has embraced this change by redesigning work processes and adapting to the hybrid working model to stay ahead. SABIC's Asia Pacific HR team led the implementation of major initiatives to ensure that employees had access to the resources they needed, no matter where they were. This included streamlining of HR administrative operations, boosting virtual employee touch points, and providing workers with continual learning and development opportunities.
SABIC's HR leaders developed a flexible leadership model called the SABIC Leadership Way (SLW) to help develop global business leaders with the relevant skills and mindsets. SABIC's SLW model, which was recognised by Gartner as a best practice for other businesses to adopt in 2021, provides leaders with strategic insights into leadership culture for individuals to grow and adapt as business contexts change, particularly through the COVID-19 pandemic, by encouraging positive leadership behaviour. The SLW approach is also used to recruit talent, engage personnel, and raise industry awareness.
Amber, an AI chatbot, was introduced to assure connectivity and increased employee engagement, and it was highly accepted, with an employee engagement rate of over 80percent in the Asia Pacific region. The chatbot contacts employees on a regular basis to solicit feedback on their experiences working at SABIC. Furthermore, this chatbot serves as a two-way communication tool, since SABIC recognises the necessity of sustaining staff mental health and welfare in the face of the ongoing pandemic.
