Averbook also stressed the need of designing HR technology around workers by establishing personas and employing design thinking. As a result, according to ADP's John Antos, Vice President Strategy, Global Payroll & Asia Pacific, CHROs will need to concentrate on talent retention rather than recruitment.
85 percent of Malaysian companies perceive the need to train personnel in digital skills. The emphasis has changed from digital productivity and remote working to technical skills like data analytics, cybersecurity, cloud computing, digital marketing, and software development. 71 percent of Malaysian employees anticipate job loss due to automation in 2021, up from 34 percent in 2020, and 87 percent believe they must upskill. Moreover, the ADP Research Institute found that managers prefer on-site staff for recruiting and promotion. The impact is neutralized if the manager works remotely.
Today's CHROs must manage four generations of employees with different expectations of what work should be like, according to Chella Pitchai, AVP & Head, Talent, Learning and Organizational Transformation at Biocon Biologics. Employers could consider conveying corporate culture and seeking possible recruits who are agile.

The SP Setia's CHRO, Nadiah Tan Abdullah, stated that executives must show self-discipline, resilience, and empathy while managing remote personnel during the epidemic. To deal with employee experience, emotional and mental-well-being challenges, future CHROs will need to be renaissance thinkers. Both Chen and Nadiah agreed that as employment becomes more digital, contract or project work will gradually replace a permanent job, and CHROs must prepare for this. After all, if contract labor becomes the norm, compensation and benefit structures will become less essential in HR management.
