The advantages of gratitude are numerous and well-documented. Thanks to this, it has a significant twofold effect, affecting both individuals who express gratitude and those who receive it in terms of happiness and energy.
FREMONT, CA: A wise leader must pay close attention to their own well-being at work and home and their team's energy and resilience. Individual employee responsibility for self-care is important, but we also need to consider how we can build and cultivate the environment for our teams and organizations to thrive. In this tumultuous and uncertain world, we must concentrate not only on how we work but also on how we recharge meaningfully in little, short, and long-term ways.

Here are four tips to support employees from burning out:
Appreciate that there is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Managing personal energy and combining high-activity or high-intensity moments with short and frequent recovery intervals helps develop a resilient workforce. People will build their tactics and strategies in a variety of ways. Allow for and learn from individually created and curated recharging methods.
Seek employee input.
Ask employees what they need and what would be most beneficial for their energy and engagement to enroll and recruit them in an anti-burnout initiative. Listen to their feedback and ideas and, if possible, incorporate them. Dedicate time in one-on-one meetings to honestly check-in on teammates' well-being — and gently test them with follow-up questions if they say they're doing "great." Take note of how things have changed throughout time.
Walk your talk.
Organizational leaders may claim to care about their employees' well-being. Still, accidental statements and behaviors might send the opposite message, causing employees at all levels to fall back into their exhausting routines. The way we use time and calendars can reinforce messages about the importance of resilience and recharging.
Show gratitude.
The advantages of gratitude are numerous and well-documented. Thanks to this, it has a significant twofold effect, affecting both individuals who express gratitude and those who receive it in terms of happiness and energy. Authentically recognizing employees for their large and small contributions to keep the company running during this challenging period has a significant impact. Make time on your calendar to express thanks – it only takes a few minutes to send a personalized note or make a quick phone call.
