Here are five essential leadership qualities:
Agility
The rate of change, especially in AI, is incredible. As a result, leaders must be able to welcome and embrace change. Importantly, they should not regard change as a hindrance but rather as an opportunity for personal and organizational growth and innovation.
Emotional intelligence
Softer qualities such as emotional intelligence and empathy will become increasingly important for human workers as more workplace functions are mechanized. And if we want future workplaces to value such human qualities, leaders must model these behaviors themselves.
Cultural intelligence
Future workplaces will be considerably more diverse, global, and dispersed than current ones. Influential leaders will recognize and capitalize on individual differences and respect and collaborate with people from various walks of life – even if they hold opposing viewpoints.
Humility
While confidence will continue to be a valuable attribute in leaders, future leaders will find a balance between confidence and humility. Instead of being critical cogs in the success machine, they will regard themselves as facilitators and partners. To put it another way, they’ll inspire others to shine.
Accountability
Flatter organizational structures, more project-based teams, partnership working – all of these things will lead to organizations becoming more transparent and collaborative. Leaders will therefore need to be more transparent and hold themselves accountable. What’s more, their actions must be in precise alignment with the company’s goals.
