Producing Thoughtful Solutions
HR pros need to find ways to promote diversity and inclusion that are consistent with the company's affirmative action policies. For example, make public statements on social media about specific ways the company is creating a more inclusive workplace. This could include hiring a certain number of women or people of color who meet the job requirements. In a company's story and stance, be clear, concrete, and honest. Mention, for example, how an organization previously approached diversity and compliance, including its successes and shortcomings. Also, share new approaches that will be used in the future. Companies need to make certain that their policies are legal, practical, and applicable.
Considering Past Implementation
HR pros Examine how previous affirmative action policies were implemented to come up with new approaches. Remember that what worked in the past may not work now. Evaluate, for example, which approaches to affirmative action were effective. If an approach can be improved and implemented to benefit a company, do so. Determine what will happen after its affirmative action plans are completed. Companies need to make certain that a company is not skipping the step of identifying problem areas and instead focusing on solutions that increase targeted outreach and recruiting efforts.
