We were all aware the world of work was destined for a change. The pandemic just made the business case stronger and built a strong momentum. The past few years have been a roller coaster, but it hasonly made the human resource (HR) industry more resilient. It has redefined the role and purpose of HR and accelerated some of the changes needed for a long time.

As we stand on the threshold of a very innovative time to come, we expect this industry to move into more pioneering, emergent practices. Here are four aspects we need to consider for a brighter future of HR.

Embrace Technology and Analytics: The HR departments of the next decade will resemble a series of paradoxes. Data-infused yet people-focused. Automating most of the administration that takes up valuable resources will free up time for purpose-driven work.

The present-day marvels: Technologies have already transformed HR and how businesses operate. Chatbots like Siri assist us in organising our days. Algorithms crawl through data on the internet to help find job applicants. Gamified selection tests yield vast amounts of performance-based data about the applicants. Algorithms sift through compensable factors and help create grade and salary scales. Web bots and virtual assistants help employees navigate benefits. Virtual reality simulators assist our learning in a training environment. Wearable technology tracks performance data. Safety and health data feed into computers and produce automated dashboards and reports. This is already a reality in our work and HR analytics will only become more automated in the future.

The science of data: A data scientist and an algorithm will account for myriad variables that factor into an organisation’s staffing plan. Interviews, especially early in the process, once conducted by humans will begin to shift toward automated chatbots, even hologram bots. A constant flow of employee performance data will funnel into databases, as chatbots will provide real-time developmental performance feedback to employees.

A renewed focus on overall organisational success: Organisational success will be a focal point for organisations in the time to come. This will be done by aligning HR goals with the company’s vision and mission. When the employees of an organisation clearly understand the direction, their company is taking and are excited about it, the profit margin of that company is twice likely to exceed the median. The HR department is responsible to steer a company to a new height, as it is the custodian of the organisational mission and vision.

“Even today, employees’ expectations for their work extend well beyond pay and compensation and more than half of employees say they want a better work-life balance”

Right from creating an environment that drives employees to collectively work towards the company’s vision to developing the talent pipeline, HR has a significant impact on key business metrics. The HR department is expected to do much more than merely putup policies in place or the right processes or systems.

Employee wellness and engagement: Even today, employees’ expectations for their work extend well beyond pay and compensation and more than half of employees say they want a better work-life balance. They want to be valued as more than just simply human capital, so they feel they are making a difference in the world as part of an organization that truly values and respects them.

Flexible and Hybrid working models:

Rising employee expectations will challenge HR to provide authentic, tailored workforce experiences that truly empower people to do their best work – wherever and however they work.
