I’ve always seen HR as more than policies or payroll, it’s the human pulse of a company, especially during growth. My path, I have built a strong foundation spanning operations, finance, and HR that gives me a unique edge to connect people strategies with real business impact. Today, as Head of Group HR Manager at Coway Malaysia, I lead all aspects of HR Talent & Culture Development, Talent Strategy, Employee and Workplace Management, with amazing teams supporting each area.
My mission? To weave our business ambitions with the well-being and growth of every person who makes Coway thrive.
Turning Recognition into Everyday Culture
One initiative close to my heart is our Culture Transformation & Recognition Drive. We noticed our dedicated teams often felt their extra efforts went unseen outside annual reviews. So, we created something simple but powerful: “Heart Coin”, a manager-driven recognition program tied to our values. Now, every manager can nominate their team members by giving tokens for meaningful shout-outs on a monthly basis, whether for project contributions or support. We paired this with smaller, more frequent touch points such as candid coffee chats with leaders, micro-learning sessions, and festive open town hall activities for employee engagement. Within a year, our surveys showed a real shift and more people felt seen and connected. But the real win? Watching teams genuinely celebrate each other, making appreciation part of our daily rhythm.
“Companies can buy tech, build products, and chase targets, but only people create lasting impact. When they grow, Coway grows too.”
Navigating Real Hurdles, Together
Of course, deepening engagement isn’t always smooth. A key challenge is bridging diverse needs across generations and roles. Frontline teams might prioritize fair scheduling or workspace comfort; corporate colleagues often seek growth paths or flexibility. Another hurdle? Shifting the old view of HR as “top-down enforcers.” Engagement is everyone’s responsibility yet we still work to help the head of division and managers become the true culture ambassadors, not just task leaders.
The Future: Personal, Connected, and Purpose-Led
Looking ahead, I see three shifts reshaping engagement:
1. Personalization: Cookie-cutter programs won’t cut it. People want growth, benefits, and flexibility tailored to their lives.
2. Human Centered Tech: As AI and hybrid tools evolve, we must design them to connect people, not isolate them behind screens.
3. Purpose in Action: Sustainability isn’t a buzzword, it’s baseline. Newer talent especially craves proof that values translate to real impact for people.
Our Learning Journey
At Coway, we’re iterating daily: testing real-time feedback tools, opening new listening channels, and coaching leaders to empower teams not just drive tasks. The next era of engagement demands courage from all of us to speak up, adapt quickly, and nurture culture as a living ecosystem.
Why This Work Matters
Here’s what keeps me going: Companies can buy tech, build products, and chase targets but only people create lasting impact. My mission stays clear: to nurture inspired, recognized teams ready for tomorrow. “Because when they grow, Coway grows too.”
