Culture, talent, and performance in sync

At Harrison Pensa, I lead the Firm’s HR strategy across talent acquisition, employee engagement, compensation and benefits, performance management, and organizational development. I work closely with Firm leadership and our lawyers to ensure our HR initiatives align with the Firm’s business objectives while fostering a high-performing and inclusive workplace culture.

My focus is on creating an environment where employees can thrive. The ultimate goal is to ensure our HR strategies support both employee success and the delivery of exceptional service to our clients.

Building a Culture Where People Can Thrive

Throughout my career, I’ve championed initiatives to attract and retain exceptional talent while fostering an engaged, high-performing workplace culture. By strengthening recruitment strategies, enhancing the employee experience, and creating opportunities for meaningful connection and growth, we’ve built an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

My leadership approach is rooted in curiosity, honesty, and integrity. I believe the strongest organizations are built when leaders listen to understand, communicate transparently, and make decisions that reflect their values. When people feel heard, trusted, and supported, they are empowered to do their best work.

For us, building trust means creating opportunities for people to connect, giving employees a voice in their experience, and demonstrating through our actions that we value both their contributions and the communities that matter to them.

Adapting Employee Experience for a Changing Workforce

Creating a workplace where people want to build their careers remains a priority for us. As workforce expectations continue to evolve, we continue investing in an employee experience that fosters connection, support, and opportunities to do meaningful work.

We are intentional about maintaining a strong sense of community, collaboration, and belonging while continuously evolving our programs and practices to meet the changing needs of our people. By investing in culture and employee experience, we strengthen engagement, support organizational performance, and position the Firm for continued long-term success.

" Listen with curiosity, speak with honesty, and lead with integrity. When leaders consistently demonstrate these qualities, they build the trust, resilience, and culture that enable both people and organizations to thrive. "

At Harrison Pensa, we’ve learned that culture isn’t defined by where people work; it’s defined by how people work together. We remain intentional about creating opportunities for connection, collaboration, mentorship, and relationship-building that strengthen our culture. This includes regular opportunities for employees and lawyers to connect informally beyond their day-to-day work, as well as opportunities to build relationships across our London and St. Thomas offices and between practice groups. These shared experiences help people get to know one another beyond their roles and strengthen the sense of community that defines our Firm.

We also recognize that meaningful employee experiences extend beyond the workplace. Where possible, we support our people in participating in community activities, organizations, and causes that matter to them. By encouraging employees to bring their interests and community connections into their professional lives, we create opportunities for people to feel supported not only as employees, but as individuals. When employees feel connected to one another, to our Firm, and to the communities in which they live and work, they’re better positioned to grow, succeed, and deliver exceptional service to our clients.

Shaping the Future of HR

The future of HR requires balancing data and technology with a strong understanding of people. We draw on employee perspectives, workforce insights, and key people metrics to inform decision-making and shape our HR strategy.

Leadership development remains a priority, as strong leaders play a critical role in fostering an engaged, high-performing culture. At the same time, we continue to explore emerging technologies that improve efficiency, enhance the employee experience, and support the evolving needs of our people and the Firm.

As the workplace continues to change, I believe HR’s role is not simply to respond to new expectations, but to understand what is driving them. The organizations that will thrive are those that can adapt while remaining grounded in the values and relationships that make people want to stay and contribute.

Advice for HR Leaders

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned throughout my career is that trust is the foundation of every successful workplace. As HR leaders, we are often navigating change, complexity, and competing priorities, but the most effective decisions are grounded in listening, transparency, and integrity.

My advice is simple: listen with curiosity, speak with honesty, and lead with integrity. When leaders consistently demonstrate these qualities, they build the trust, resilience, and culture that enable both people and organizations to thrive.
