| | APRIL - 2023MANAGEHRMAGAZINE.COM19Megan, how has your journey been as the Senior Director of People Operations, and what are your current role and responsibilities at rag & bone? My career path within the field of HR has been non-linear. After obtaining a degree in accounting and finance, I began my professional journey by managing bank reconciliation journal entries. However, my trajectory changed when the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was implemented, and I transitioned into an audit role. Back then, determining whether we were paying the correct amount for health insurance was largely based on numerical analysis. Today, employers need to be aware, informed, and educated about it. It is crucial to elevate and impact employees' lives, especially when things are challenging personally. That path led me to HR, where I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of numbers and excel. At rag & bone, my professional interests initially centered around the development of forecasts and headcount planning. Subsequently, I transitioned to a role where I was responsible for overseeing payroll documentation and benefits administration.Due to the global outbreak, we started educating employees on what COVID-19 is and how we can protect them. It quickly became a safety edge by continuing education, managing employees through uncertain times, and often being a guidance counselor. It also included managing everyone's operations, including their payroll, benefits, documentation, compliance, and policies, and educating them about their rights and responsibilities. Within the HR space, what, according to you, are the potential challenges that exist in the marketplace? Also, what are some of the leading trends that have led the HR space to evolve over the years? Based in New York, we define pay equity, embrace pay transparency, and lead the industry in employee rights. Having a passion for understanding numbers and being able to drill down into the details is critical not only in America but all over the world. I believe that it is a major obstacle for many firms. Rebecca Seidenstein, our chief people officer, and I have been working on it for the past three years. I am very excited to see what 2023 holds and which other states will follow New York and California.Megan Liu, Senior Director of People Operations at rag & bone utilizes people analytics to enhance organizations and individuals from her base in New York, United States.
