FREMONT, CA: Emotions are a part of daily life. People experience various kinds of emotions throughout the day, from work to home to social events, life, and family. Managing emotions can be difficult, especially in the workplace. When pressure is high, and resources are low, emotions need to be kept under check to ensure smooth functioning. This becomes even more challenging when the person in question is in a position of leadership. Managers need to be able to lead an organization and should set the tone when it comes to managing emotions. To complicate it even further, it is very challenging to drive a workplace without being affected by any emotions.

Whether an entry-level employee or a CEO, it is essential to be able to manage emotions at a workplace.

Honesty  Be open to your peers. Exposing your struggles and weaknesses to your team will add an extra layer of loyalty. When peers can connect with their leaders, they tend to open up and be more honest about their work. This adds a sense of responsibility amongst employees, often reducing the burden on leaders. Being honest need not require opening up about family or personal life. In most cases, being honest brings up more options and helps strengthen relations. This directly translates into organizational success.

Act, Don't Think  A leader should look deeper and try to uncover the reasons for an employee's emotional situation. Find what is triggering the employee to behave differently. This can give an insight into the danger zones of a particular employee, enabling leaders to be in a much better position next time to deal with such situations. Please do not ignore the chaos, identify who his having a mental breakdown, and help them get their sanity back. When leaders intervene to handle an employee's emotional condition, it builds a sense of trust and also improves their dedication towards the organization.

Do Not Discourage Crying  Crying is a way of the human body, releasing its emotions. Women are often more likely to cry. Men are also sensitive but have other ways of releasing their feelings. Tears at the workplace are the equivalent of a check engine sign. However, it is not right to associate tears as a sign of weakness. Instead, managers should see this as a sign of being overworked. It is an indicator of a more significant underlying need that needs to be addressed by managers.
